This prestigious award is made to an exhibiting artist of the VAS in conjunction with the "Artist of the Year Award Exhibition" in November each year.
The VAS runs three ordinary exhibitions during the course of a year for it's members, starting with the "Undine Award" in April, the "Rembrandt" in June and a "Theme Exhibition" in September.
All exhibiting artists in the three exhibitions are invited to cast votes for their favourite 4 artists in those exhibitions. These votes are used to decide the list of candidates for the "Artist of the Year Award" exhibition, with the highest vote achiever being named Artist of the Year.
As can be seen the award is unique as it is not awarded by a committee or judge, but by the peers of the winning artist.
The votes cast are recorded at each exhibition and the resultant winner is announced during a special ceremony during the "Artist of the Year Award" night.
The Norman Kaye Memorial Medallion is awarded by the family of the late Norman Kaye, a long time friend and supporter of the V.A.S. and founder of Camden Art. The Medallion is awarded to the artist gaining the most votes at the Artist of the Year Exhibitions.
Award founded by former VAS Hon. Treasurer Mr. Gordon Moffatt. This award will be given to the youngest artist who has gained a place in the Award Exhibition.
The Norma Bull Scholarship is portraiture prize and it is held biannually.
The Scholarship is made available through the bequest of the late Norma Bull. It is open to all students enrolled in a tertiary Arts Course or in classes conducted by an approved Art Association or art teacher in Victoria.
The winning portrait becomes the property of the Trustees, or, alternatively may require the winner to complete a portrait of an approved subject during the period of the scholarship.
This is a coveted Art Prize that attracts many entrants each round. The event usually coincides with the VAS annual portraiture week events, including a portraiture exhibition, workshops, and "People Painting People" demonstration days.
The Norma Bull 2011 $5000 Naturalistic Portraiture Scholarship Competition is now open for applicants. Find out more information or download an application form.
