‘An Old Politician’ (1879) by Frederick McCubbin, one of the first works he sold, was unveiled for a public viewing after 137 years at 12.00 noon Tuesday 22 March 2016 at the Victorian Artists’ Society in East Melbourne.
Painted by Frederick McCubbin when he was 24, the painting has been in a Private Collection since it was sold in the 1880’s, after being exhibited in 1879.

The painting was unveiled by artist David McCubbin, the great grandson of Frederick McCubbin, at the official launch of a $1.5 million Building Restoration Appeal for the Victorian Artists’ Society heritage listed building. The Society will have its 150th milestone celebration in 2020.
